Letters from the Sun to Human Beings – on Loving Yourself

On Loving Yourself

Dear children of the blue planet,

Love yourself. Love yourself unconditionally. And I repeat, unconditionally. From the bottom of your heart to the tips of your toes. With all your beauty, your contradictions, your dreams and your scars.

Think about me. Every morning, I rise above your beautiful blue planet and offer you my light. I have never asked whether you deserve it. I shine upon the mountains and the valleys, the saints and the sinners. I shine upon you when you are joyful and when you are lost. My love does not depend on what you achieve, how you look, what you own or who you become. And neither should yours.

Remember, my dear children, you are the person with whom you will spend every second of your life. Make yourself someone you love being with. How will you share your light with the world if you do not nurture it within?

I have watched you for thousands of generations, and I have seen how mercilessly you sometimes treat yourselves. You offer your friends tenderness while speaking to yourselves with cruelty. You call it self-improvement, but from up here, it seems a sophisticated way to beat yourself up. You fear that kindness will make you weak. It will not. Self-compassion does not lower the mountain you are climbing; it changes the voice that walks beside you on the way up.

The Buddha invited you to extend loving-kindness to all living beings. Remember, you are one of them. Likewise, Aristotle understood that friendship with others begins with friendship with oneself. Become your own dearest friend. Speak to yourself as you would to someone you love. Celebrate your small victories. Hold your own hand through sorrow. And when your heart feels heavy, place your palm upon it. That gentle warmth is mine.

Forgive yourself for your past mistakes. Rewrite those old stories of shame with compassion. You did the best you could with the understanding, awareness and resources you had at the time. Love your scars. They are part of your story. They speak of battles fought, the love given, the losses endured and the courage to begin again. Remember Rumi’s words:

The wound is the place where the light enters you – Rumi

Let your wounds become openings for wisdom and tenderness.

To love yourself deeply, my dear children, learn to trust yourselves. Think of the people you love. You trust them because you know they will listen, respect you and stand beside you when life becomes difficult. Why should your relationship with yourselves be any different?

Keep your promises to yourselves, as I keep mine. I have risen every morning of your existence. Trust grows through experience, one small sunrise at a time. Every time you honour your values, respect your boundaries or care for your well-being, you learn that you can rely on yourselves. And when you disappoint yourselves, begin again. Self-trust creates the emotional safety in which love can flourish. You become your own safe harbour, a place of warmth and belonging to which you can always return.

Spend time with yourselves. Just yourselves. You spend so much of your lives discovering the world around you. But how much time do you devote to exploring the extraordinary universe within yourselves? Cherish this time. For if you wish to trust yourselves, how can you trust someone you hardly ever take the time to know?

The ancient Greeks urged you to know thyself. Jung reminded you of the awakening that comes from looking within. Keep asking yourselves: What brings you joy? What do you truly value? What makes your heart come alive? Who are you beneath the expectations of others?

But to hear the answers, my dear children, you must seek moments of silence and stillness.

You have forgotten the art of doing nothing. You fill every empty moment with noise, stimulation and distraction, leaving little room to listen to your own inner voice. The one who knows.

Silence is where the whispers of your soul become audible. Where thoughts settle, emotions find their voice, forgotten memories resurface and truths long buried begin to reveal themselves. As Rumi (once again) reminds you:

Silence is the language of God; all else is poor translation – Rumi

Remember, my dear children, some of life’s deepest truths cannot be chased. They must be allowed to emerge. You don’t need to go to them. They come to you, if you allow them to. Like the dawn, they arrive when you make space for them.

Be still. Listen. Let silence introduce you to the person you have been all along.

And when you finally meet yourselves, look within with curiosity and tenderness. Let your own light fall upon every corner of your heart, including the parts you would rather hide. Even the Moon has a dark side, and I do not love her less for it.

And welcome your emotions. They are messengers from your inner world, asking to be heard. Learn to name them, expand your emotional vocabulary and recognise their many shades beyond happiness, sadness and anger. Feel them in your body, where they often speak before you think about them. You cannot understand every feeling through thought alone. Give them space, listen with curiosity and tenderness. Let them be heard without letting them rule you. Even the darkest clouds have something to tell you before they pass.

Know yourself. Accept yourself. Trust yourself. Love yourself. And remember that this is the journey of a lifetime, a journey that begins again with each and every one of my sunrises ☀️.

Protect the beautiful being you discover. Set boundaries. Say no when your heart knows it must. You can be generous without giving yourself away, kind without pleasing everyone, loving without losing yourself.

And free yourself, my dear children, from the exhausting need to be approved of by others. You were not meant to live your precious lives through someone else’s eyes.

Care for your body, your mind and your soul. Your body is your home on Earth. Nourish it, move it, allow it to rest. Give your mind silence, your heart tenderness and your soul the freedom to wander. Walk beneath my light. Dance without reason. Sit beneath a tree. Choose your friends wisely. Laugh until your belly hurts. Allow yourself moments when nothing needs to be achieved, improved or proved. Moments of simply being. You are human beings, not human doings.

Finally, my dear children, share the magic you carry within. Your laughter, your kindness, your imagination, your capacity to love. Let it warm the people around you, like I do. Let your joy become contagious, your compassion become courage and your presence become a gift. For the love you cultivate within yourself never ends with you. It travels through every hand you hold, every heart you comfort, and every life you touch. And whenever you forget your worth, whenever you feel lost, unworthy or alone, look towards me. I will be here tomorrow. And the day after. And the day after that.

Shining upon you, exactly as you are.

With all my light,

The Sun ☀️

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read this letter. ❤️
